Two gorges, only one right choice at a time
After the Var valley, the road climbs towards the hinterland by two possible routes: the Daluis gorges, with their red cliffs, or the narrower, more winding Cians gorges. One may be closed or slowed while the other is open, because of snow, a rockfall or roadworks. Your chauffeur checks both before leaving and chooses the safer route.
The journey is about ninety kilometres and takes between an hour forty and two hours ten outside the holidays. It is a road with character, slower than its distance suggests, and better enjoyed with free eyes than with hands on the wheel.
